Flexible conservation decisions for climate adaptation

Climate change is transforming the decision-making landscape for many conservation organizations. Conservation planning and implementation under climate are challenging due to uncertainties about impacts effectiveness of adaptation options. Strategically building flexibility into plans so they can be adjusted over time in response unforeseen events, or new information, one solution this challenge. Yet, there a wide range mechanisms choose from enhance need more structured approach inform plans. To achieve this, we conceptualize flexible strategies as three types, procedural flexibility, resource action explicitly link these risks steps processes. We discuss how framework guide choices strategies, including identifying costs benefits, illustrate using examples. This provides conceptual tool organizations make strategic adaptation.
